PACK is a combined tender submission for a green tower that connects the IJ promenade and Noorderpark, establishing a vital ecological link to create a more sustainable Amsterdam. MOSS’s design strengthens the ecological connection between the promenade and the park.

The green terraces, which extend from the top to the bottom of the building, are central to the design. MOSS created a textured landscape using a mix of evergreens, shade-loving shrubs, small trees, tall grasses, and perennials. Climbing plants cover the façade, enriching both the appearance and microclimate, while also providing nesting opportunities for birds and insects.
–
The terraces on the lower levels receive ample sunlight, supporting the growth of colorful crops and taller plants like hawthorn, magnolia, and oleander—chosen to reflect local street names. The higher terraces are shielded from wind, creating inviting spaces for residents to relax, eat, and socialize outdoors. The lush vegetation also helps cool the building, especially during the summer months.
–
At the heart of the building lies a glass-covered courtyard. This serves as both a community space and a rainwater storage system. This green lung cools the building and provides irrigation for the surrounding greenery, ensuring year-round enjoyment. PACK also features green water buffer layers on its terraces, storing up to 250 m³ of excess rainwater for later irrigation use.

PACK not only meets the needs of Amsterdam Noord’s residents but also strengthens the neighborhood through its sustainable design and vibrant community spaces.
