District West is a redevelopment project transforming a once-industrial site near Amsterdam Sloterdijk Station into a vibrant, green campus! Designed to set a new benchmark in sustainable workplace environments, this project integrates biophilic design in an innovative way with flexible, user-centered spaces.

The design juxtaposes robust industrial architecture with lush greenery to create a dynamic and welcoming environment. Green islands take the form of strategically placed planters with integrated seating and varying soil heights for a dynamic aesthetic. Additionally, vertical gardens with steel rings and wire trellises support climbing plants that enhance verticality and create striking visual impact.

The project prioritizes circular building practices, renewable energy use, and enhanced biodiversity. Recycled materials were used for sustainable plant growth.

The biophilic lobby of District West provides immersive green spaces for relaxation and interaction, while daylight-filled offices ensure a pleasant work atmosphere. Curved planters guide movement, and protected niches support quiet phone calls or networking opportunities.

  • Modular green designs that adapt to different spatial needs.
  • Thoughtful plant selections, including subtropical species like Tetrastigma climbers and Kentia palm, chosen for visual appeal and adaptability.
  • Supplemental grow lights and climate controls to maintain optimal plant health year-round.
