A Biophilic Neighborhood in Utrecht
Wildgroei is a pioneering residential development in Haarrijn, Utrecht, commissioned by Blink and led by Marc Koehler Associates with ecological design by Soontiëns Ecology. MOSS was engaged as green architect to craft outdoor landscapes and communal gardens across 63 biobased homes.
integrating landscape architecture
MOSS worked on integrating private, semi-public, and public green areas. We included large semi-public gardens, vertical planting, and native species palettes, establishing resilient green corridors. These gardens were designed to support dynamic seasonal growth and social interaction.
Re-Wilding Principles
Built on six-values—people, nature, materials, environment, health, community—we developed a re-wilding scheme. Landscaped meadows, hedgerows, water features, adventure paths, and green façades blur the line between built form and surroundings, to encourage a living, evolving neighborhood.
Sustainability with Impact
Rainwater-fed irrigation, habitat support for birds, bats, insects, and smart plant selection enhance biodiversity. Wildgroei exemplifies a model for nature-inclusive, carbon-storing, community-centered urban habitats
