A biophilic impact through flexible circular planters
Dr. Sarphatihuis, located in Amsterdam’s Plantage district, was redesigned for Amsta to make it a more friendly space whilst keeping its flexibility. MOSS led the biophilic design, creating flexible, plant-filled atriums and communal areas. Fun fact: the modular “Moving Islands” planters allow spaces to transform for events or daily activities.
Designing for Human Connection and WellBeing
The concept emphasizes flexibility, comfort, and social interaction. MOSS’s greenery integrates with modular furniture to create adaptable zones for work, play, and rest. The biophilic design softens the interior, encourages movement, and provides visual and acoustic relief, supporting a sense of security, community, and mental wellbeing for its older residents.
Circular and Biophilic Design
Dr. Sarphatihuis prioritizes circularity and environmental performance. Recycled materials were used in the used furniture and planters, demonstrating how thoughtful circular design can enhance quality while fostering healthy, resilient spaces for residents and staff alike. The modularity of the system also brings dynamism to the space and allows it to shift from a day setup to a setup for small events or even a setup for larger events or functions.
