The Green House in Utrecht is a pioneering circular pavilion that embodies sustainability in both design and operation. It serves as an inspiring example of a reusable structure, integrating a restaurant, flexible meeting spaces, an urban farm, and an outdoor herbal garden.

MOSS helped design the indoor urban farm and outdoor herbal garden to enhance biodiversity and provide fresh, homegrown ingredients for the restaurant. The first-floor greenhouse produces herbs, lettuce, and vegetables, creating a hyper-local supply chain. Visitors can enjoy the green surroundings, whether dining indoors or relaxing on the lush terrace. Sustainable choices extend to second-hand furnishings, leased lighting, and an energy-efficient infrastructure.

Designed with a lightweight, fully demountable construction, The Green House minimizes material use and can be easily relocated. Reclaimed glass from the adjacent Knoopkazerne, bolted steel structures, and modular elements ensure maximum reuse potential.

More than just a building, The Green House provides a connection between people and nature, encouraging a circular mindset. By immersing guests in an environment where they can eat, meet, and enjoy the green, it promotes a sustainable future while adding immediate value to its surroundings.
