Connecting stepped rooftop gardens, sensory planting, and habitats for wildlife, creating shared spaces for residents to connect with nature and one another.
The PACK tender proposal brought together housing, care, and shared amenities in the Overhoeks neighborhood, connecting new development with the existing Van der Pek neighborhood. Working alongside Burton Hamfelt and Koschuch, MOSS designed a stepped rooftop landscape with greenery extending into the entrances, complete with a functional slide to connect the levels.
gardens with their own character
Each terrace has a distinct planting concept. An intimate care garden offers year-round greenery, while trees and flowering shrubs bring seasonal change to the fourth and fifth floors. The sensory garden combines fragrant herbs, edible plants, and soft foliage. Higher up, planting becomes lower and more wind-resistant, preserving views across Amsterdam Noord.
Designing for life through the seasons
The planting creates interest throughout the year, from the early yellow flowers of Cornelian cherry to autumn foliage and the winter silhouettes of grasses. Tall stems and flowers offer shelter for insects, while the upper terraces combine sedum, herbs, and low-growing grasses with flowers selected for bees and butterflies. Together, these layers create space for nature at different heights.
