In Utrecht’s station district, Central Park is a 23-story office tower. Halfway up, this building holds a two-story, glass-enclosed park. To help this sky-high park reach its full potential, MOSS designed 500m2 of indoor green. Working together with the Koninklijke Ginkel Groep, the result is a rich, green landscape 45 meters above the city.
designing a sky-high, indoor park
MOSS designed an indoor garden with 50 trees/shrubs and 1,500 plants, inspired by the subtropical flora of the Azores. Wooden pathways and green-integrated seating create a multifunctional green retreat. Planting choices were intended to create a layered, sensory experience — 11 stories in the sky.
blending nature and architecture
The suspended park acts as the building’s “green lung,” merging urban life with a natural landscape. Organic materials in the garden contrast the tower’s sleek lines, while the biophilic design approach offers workers and visitors a direct, calming connection to nature.
environmentally conscious design
Central Park is BREEAM Excellent certified and designed to meet Paris Proof energy goals. Powered by 100% green electricity and 226 solar panels, it features a WKO system for heating and cooling. Our planting features low-maintenance species to improve air quality and reduce water use.
