New architecture in the Kenniskwartier
Ceci is a mixed-use development in Amsterdam Zuid, developed by Being and designed by Space Encounters. The project brings together residential apartments, commercial space, and cultural programming to create a future-focused residence for future residents. The design by Space Encounters is playful in appearance, featuring eye-catching curved ledges in a mother-of-pearl shade.
The building’s green identity
MOSS has developed the green concept Ceci as an expression of magical realism, where imagination meets rational design, and greenery brings life to every space. By using wavy grasses to depict movement with the wind, and pastel colors contrasting with dark grasses, we aimed to represent a whimsical and uncanny side of a magical world corresponding with the design of the architecture.
green terrace and balconies
Green terraces and balconies define the building’s appearance, transforming it into a thriving habitat for people, plants, and animals alike. These green layers not only enrich daily life but also strengthen the building’s identity and recognizability.
Designing with the environment in mind
Sustainability at CECI is about biodiversity and long-term resilience. From diverse planting schemes and smart use of natural light to the integration of renewable energy and visible timber construction, the project shows how architecture and landscape can build a healthier, greener urban future.
