A geothermal-powered green oasis
Commissioned by the ALDIN Biodome initiative, the design team included WilkinsonEyre, Basalt, Atelier One and Atelier Ten, EFLA, Gagarin, and MOSS as the green architect. MOSS focused on the living plant environments inside the two biodomes.
Shaping ALDIN’s living heart
MOSS was tasked with designing the biodome’s interior landscape, which entails creating planting schemes for the subtropical and tropical main domes, and designing a vertical farm for the marketplace and restaurant areas. Every element was planned using circular, low-tech, and practical solutions tailored to Iceland’s climate and the biodome’s geothermal systems.
Wellbeing, culture, and creativity under glass
The design concept positioned ALDIN as a multi-sensory cultural hub. Inside the main dome, visitors could wander through tropical vegetation, enjoy Icelandic cuisine in a plant-filled restaurant, or work in rental spaces surrounded by greenery. By integrating workspaces, leisure zones, and edible gardens into the same lush environment, MOSS and the team aimed to create a new model for an urban public space that celebrated nature as the central feature.
