The Zandkasteel, a former ING headquarters in Amsterdam, has been transformed into a vibrant mixed-use destination. Working alongside a multi-disciplinary team, we were responsible for the green design that bridges heritage and modern use.
creating a biophilic interior landscape
MOSS curated planting concepts across the public spaces, enhancing light, acoustics, and atmosphere while connecting users to nature. Movable planters, integrated millwork with greenery, and color-based planting zones create a park-like quality that could adapt to different uses and moods.
Designing an Internal City with Nature
The overall vision was to create an “internal city” of streets, squares, and parks that could serve as workplaces, cultural spaces, and homes. By weaving greenery into every zone, MOSS reinforced the building’s organic architecture and supported D/DOCK’s goal of fostering community, flexibility, and well-being.
Sustainability as a focal point
Sustainability was central to the transformation, with circular furniture, biodiversity-focused planting, and smart irrigation systems. By reusing materials and breathing new life into an existing structure, the project minimized environmental impact.
